Visitorships at the Ian Ramsey Centre (IRC)

The IRC is able to provide an academic home for visiting scholars in Science and Religion for the duration of their visit. Visitors benefit from the academic life of Oxford while contributing to the Centre’s research initiatives, events, and public engagement activities. We welcome applications from researchers at different career stages whose work demonstrates originality, rigour, and clear relevance to the IRC’s areas of focus.

Applicants should seek preliminary approval from the IRC before applying to the Faculty of Theology and Religions’s visitorship scheme for final approval.

What the visitorship scheme offers:

  • Opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration at the Ian Ramsey Centre, and in the Faculty of Theology and Religion more widely.

  • Engagement with seminars, workshops, and public events.

  • Visitors are given a University of Oxford e-mail address during their visit, and access to the University’s Bodleian Library.

Note that doctoral students are able to visit the IRC under the University’s Recognised Student scheme, if their research aligns with existing IRC research themes. Applicants should demonstrate that they are at an advanced stage in their doctoral research, and that they have the full support of their home supervisor. The IRC does not offer supervision to visiting doctoral students, but is happy to provide informal guidance during their visit.

How to Apply

  • Step 1: Please complete the IRC visitorship form. Click here to access the Visitorship Interest form.

  • Step 2: After completing the form, please send your CV to irc.admin@theology.ox.ac.uk,together with a 1-2 page outline of the work you will be doing in Oxford and how it connects with the work of the IRC.

  • Applications are reviewed regularly by IRC staff. Candidates whose applications are successful at this first stage will then be recommended to apply formally to the Faculty’svisitorship scheme.
