Newton’s idea of an ordered universe, governed by “laws of nature”, might seem to exclude the idea of miracles. In fact, the matter is more complex. This presentation looks at the philosopher David Hume’s critique of miracles as “violations of the laws
of nature,” and the difficulties this encounters, before looking at the alternative approach of the British philosopher of religion Keith Ward.
